"Let not your heart be troubled, I have found rest at the end of the day"

The Obituary

Minister Willie “Billy” Richardson, Sr. was born on December 18, 1954, in Clarke County, AL. He is the son of Cleavor Mae Richardson Laffitte and Eddie Laffitte. Affectionately known as “Billy,” he accepted Christ as his Savior and worshipped the Lord throughout his lifetime.

Mr. Richardson is a native of Clarke County and a resident Gosport. He attended Wilson Hall High School and entered the workforce. He made an honest living and provided for his family working as a Logger. He was employed by Bush Thames Logging (Frisco City) and Whatley Timber (Whatley).  He was a respected Volunteer Fireman with the Tri-Community Fire Department in Gosport, AL.

He answered God’s calling for his life, and in 2004 and became an ordained Minister. Willie Richardson, Sr. was a member and the Associate Pastor of Little Rock Baptist Church in Gosport, AL. He was friendly and never met a stranger. He loved helping people, cooking, and assisting the elderly at the community Food Bank. He was a generous and jovial spirit who found fulfillment in helping others. He was an active volunteer, working as part of the Gosport Annual Family and Friends Reunion, the May-Day Fest, Vice President of the Annual Gosport Fest and People Making a Difference in the Community. He was a man of God, and Minister Richardson believed in living the word as much as he believed in delivering it. His family and his children brought him great joy, but it his grandchildren who stole his heart.

He met and married Cora Richardson and their union birthed three children. He later re-entered the Sanctity of Holy Matrimony with Joann Becton. Through this union, he was blessed with a step-son.

In the mid-morning hours of Friday, February 26, 2021, Billy traded his earthly home, for a mansion in the sky. He transitioned from the Mobile Infirmary Hospital, leaving many memories to be cherished. Willie Richardson, Sr. was preceded in death by his father-Eddie Laffitte, the mother of his three children-Cora Richardson, and two grandchildren-Deonte Hunt and Gavyn Richardson.

He is survived by his loving wife: Joann Richardson of Whatley, AL; two devoted sons: Gary (Bernittae) Richardson of Birmingham, AL and Willie (Devona) Richardson, Jr. of Montgomery, AL; two loved  daughters: Natasha Burroughs of Whatley, AL and Samantha (Richard) Jones of Thomasville, AL; a devoted stepson: Jabari Moore of Marion Junction, AL; his mother: Cleavor Mae Laffitte of Whatley, AL; eight sisters: Amanda Hinson of McCalla, AL; Carrie Mae (Norman) Gholston of Monroeville, AL, Mary (Steven) Richardson of Whatley, AL, Annie Laffitte of Whatley, AL, Hattie Laffitte of Whatley, AL, Sherley (Wilbert) Peterson of Huntsville, AL, Kathy (Leonard) Knight of Gautier, MS and Latonia Laffitte of Upper Malboro, MD; three brothers: Anthony (Maxine) Laffitte of Birmingham, AL, Dennis (Chereasa) Laffitte of Jasper, TX, and Demetrice (Tauja) Laffitte of Monroeville, AL; five loved grandchildren: Kaleb Crowell, Jariyan Jackson, Alaysia Richardson, Sycoria  Jones, and Amaya McFadden; a host of great friends, nieces, nephews, and other loved relatives.
