Willie Earl Carter
"Big Will"
Willie Earl Carter was born on October 26, 1949, to the late Willie C. Carter and Louise (Kennedy) Carter of Ozark, AL. Affectionately known as “Big Will”, he was a family man who enjoyed the simplicities of life. People throughout the community knew that he was a trusted shoulder; lending support of his time and resources whenever he could. A Vietnam Veteran, he was proud to be a soldier in the United States Army. SP4 Carter was decorated for his acts of valor, receiving the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device. He was honored to serve his country.
He met his soulmate, Betty, and the two of them shared in the lives of two children. July 31, 2019, would have marked their 40th year of marriage. Their children meant the world to him, but it was his grandchildren and great grandchild that stole his heart. A little rough around the edges, “Big Will’s” heart was larger than life itself. The family looked to his level minded approach to everything and his desire to keep the peace was appreciated. He provided for his family through honest means, working many years as a Welder for Jordan Pile Driving in Mobile.
On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, surrounded by the love of family, Willie answered the Master’s call. He was called Home to Glory, leaving behind memories that will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife: Betty Moore Carter of Bay Minette, AL; two daughters: Monica (Tyson) Taylor of Daphne, AL and Veronica (Cedric) Harvey of Clarksville, TN; three brothers: Laymon Carter, Jr., of Cowarts, AL, Willie Gene Carter of Ozark, AL, and Louis (Michelley) Carter of Enterprise, AL; two sisters: Willie Dean Harpe and Armon Jean (John) Thompson, Sr., both of Ozark, AL, four grandchildren: Tyral English, Diamond Taylor, Jada Pryor and Tyrese Taylor; one great grandchild: Haven “Bug” English; two sisters-in-law: Annie (George) York, and Thelma Cook both of Tensaw, AL; one brother-in-law: Joshua Stevens of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved relatives, and many friends.
