Shannon Richey Obituary

Shannon Wesley Richey

Gone away from us here, but never to be forgotten. Rest now, our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend.

Shannon Wesley Richey was born on January 21, 1980, to John Wesley Richey and Dorothy Louise (Richardson) Richey in Monroe County, AL. Shannon was one of several children born to this loving union. A lifelong native of Monroe County, he attended Monroe County High School.

Shannon had a kind and loving spirit. He enjoyed the simple things in life: good friends, the love of family and spending time with his wife and children. His ability to see details proved to be helpful with one of his favorite hobbies, bluing guns. He took pride in quietly meticulously taking guns apart, removing rust and repairing them for family and friends.  Shannon loved to laugh and ‘funny things” tickled him more than most. His gentle side drew him to animals, especially dogs. Shannon simply loved DOGS. But, overall the most important joy of his life was found in the love he shared with his wife and child.

Erica and Shannon were friends for twenty years before entering into a more permanent relationship. Having found sweet love through a special courtship, the two married on February 14, 2011. The Sanctity of Holy Matrimony gave them nine years of happiness and the blessing of one son.  Shannon was a proud father and raising his son into a kind and respectful man, was his ultimate goal. He was a provider and worked as a Heavy Machine (Saw) Operator (Saw) at  Harrigan Lumber Company for several years, before taking a Security Guard job at Vanity Fair Textile Mills. He and Eric shared nine happy years together before God chose him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife: Erica Diane (Rankins) Richey of Monroeville, AL; a loved son:          Johnathon Wesley Richey of Monroeville, AL; three sisters: Laura Jean (Danny) McQuieter and Karen Michelle Richey, Mary Helen (Melvin) Hope off Mt. Clair, NJ and Karen Michelle Richey also of Monroeville, AL; one brother: Sgt. First Class Terrance “Demetrius” (Barbara)  Richey of Ft. Polk, LA; one niece and a host of nephews, many other loved relatives and many friends.
