Mr. Michael Holmes
Born September 2, 1959, in Natchez, Mississippi to Katie Lucille and Lampkin Holmes, Sr. Michael spent his childhood in Natchez until his family moved to Houston, Texas in 1968.
Michael believed in our Lord and Savior under the leadership of the late Pastor Joe Nelson, Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ. Michael was mentored by Pastor Nelson at the early age of 16 and became Pastor Nelson’s assistant and chauffer for several years. Michael and Pastor Nelson maintained a close relationship until Pastor Nelson’s death.
Michael worked with his brothers Lampkin and John in the home remodeling business until his early forties before relocating from Houston, Texas to Evergreen, Alabama with his wife Barbara. Michael and Barbara joined the Seventh Day Adventist faith and became community service workers under the leadership of Barbara Barnes and Lillie Buckingham. Michael worked diligently in the church and received an outstanding community service award in 2019 for his services in Panama City. At the time of his death Michael was a member of Macie Herbert Memorial SDA Church under the leadership of Pastor Sargent Sims.
The faith of the Seventh Day Adventist church enabled Michael to become a more spiritual and knowledgeable person of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There are so many people in this world but when Michael heard the Lord call his name, he said goodbye to this old world and Barbara just because the Lord reached for him.
Michael is preceded in death by his grandmother Reverend Beulah Brady, parents Lampkin Holmes, Sr. and his mother Katie Lucille, Sister Yvonne Lyons (Harold), Beula Page (Gerald), Lillian Watson (James), and Pastor Pearlie Holmes (Latonia).
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his wife Barbara, brothers Pastor Samuel Holmes, (Tilde) of Jacksonville Illinois, Lampkin Holmes, Jr. (Robbie), and Elder James Holmes (Gladys), of Houston Texas. Pastor Joseph Holmes (Francis) of Athens, Tennessee, Elder John Holmes (Ella) of Houston, Texas, Elder Elijah Holmes of Natchez, Mississippi, Kenneth Holmes, (Ora) of Houston, Texas, and Minister Lorenzo Holmes (Orly) of Athens, Tennessee. We look to that day when we shall meet Michael again on that great resurrection day wherein God’s children shall be caught up in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye to meet the Lord.
