Lola Ree Bradley Kidd was born on Dec. 24, 1924, to the late Sammie Thomas Bradley and Georgia Queen (Sampey) Bradley, in Uriah, Alabama.  She was one of thirteen children born on the Pierce Plantation, a sharecropper’s land.

At the tender age of eight, she joined the Mt. Triumph Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Womack. Some years later, she joined the Macedonia Baptist Church and served there until her health no longer allowed her to be active.

During her lifelong service at her beloved Macedonia Baptist Church, “Miss Kidd” served as a Director of Vacation Bible School, a Matron, President of the Missionary Society, Deaconess,  President of the Adult Choir, Church Musician, Choir Director, and Minister of Music. She rendered her services in the Music Department for more than 70 years.

Her passion for music did not allow her to only render service to Macedonia Baptist Church as a Musician, she also blessed Lily Baptist Church (Frisco City, AL), Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Claiborne, AL), Good Hope Baptist Church (Wainwright, AL) and Morning Star Baptist Church (Uriah, AL) with her musical talents.

Lola Ree began her educational journey in “one room” church schools in both Uriah and Manistee, AL. When those grades were completed, she matriculated at the Bethlehem Industrial Academy (BIA) in Monroeville, AL. After graduating from BIA, she pursued her collegiate aspirations at Bishop State College in Mobile, AL, where she studied Cosmetology and Elementary Education. In 1950, after receiving certifications in both areas of study, Lola Ree began her teaching career in Monroe County Public Schools. She worked as a Physical Education teacher and served her community as a Beautician, working after school hours, during school breaks and on the weekends. In 1952, she returned to college and completed her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Alabama State University, Montgomery, AL. Several schools benefited from her expertise; Mary Gardner Jr. High School (Frisco City, AL), Monroeville elementary School and Monroeville Middle School (Monroeville, AL).

Early in her professional career, Lola Ree met and married Johnnie Kidd. This union, of more than 62 years, produced three beloved children. In the late evening hours of Tuesday, January 15, 2019, the Lord stretched out His hand and received her into His Kingdom. She left behind her earthly woes for a mansion in the sky. She was preceded in death by eleven siblings: Sam “Buddy Boy” Bradley, Jr., Pearlie Mae Donald, Ethel Kennedy, Ida Rean Bradley Malone, Naaman Bradley, Milton Bradley, Preston Bradley, Louis Bradley, Rolanease P. Bradley Brown, George Bradley and a “Bradley” infant sibling.

She is survived by a loving husband and soulmate: Johnnie Kidd; three devoted children: Veronica Rice, and Johnnie (Joeanna) Kidd, and Genevelyn (Milton) Brown; her brother: Reverend Curtis (Henrietta) Bradley; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great grandchild, one great great grandchild; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who loved and adored her.
