James Munnerlyn Obituary

James Edward Munnerlyn

"Let not your hearts be troubled. My Savior has prepared a place for me and I shall take my rest now"

Mr. James Edward Munnerlyn was born on July 31, 1957, to Elmer Munnerlyn and Roberta Moore Munnerlyn in Baldwin County, Alabama. He was one of nine children born to this loving union. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with the 1st Missionary Baptist Church in Tensaw, AL. He served his Lord and Savior faithfully, as President of the Usher Board, a Trustee and in whatever capacity the Lord saw fit to call him to.

Although he never married, he found great joy in watching his nieces and nephews grow up as a part of his life. Many times, they were more like his children than they realized; bringing him their laughter, hugs and stories of the day.  He shared himself with them and they, in turn, gave him their unwavering love.

James was a “JOKESTER” and enjoyed making others laugh. Seeing family and friends smile, brought joy to his heart. His love for family was evident with how he interacted with them. Spending time with them, laughing, shopping or even cooking, seemed to add a sparkle to his smile. At any given moment, he could go to his freezer and put a pot on the stove. It wouldn’t be long before the house would be filled with the aroma of good eating. It made him feel good to fill the stomachs of others.

He was extremely proud of his yard. He landscaped and manicured it with pride. James didn’t mind sharing his flowers and different items from his garden. He truly could grow anything. “Lil’Pop” as he was affectionately known, worked for many years at Standard Furniture, repairing furniture. He retired and found that he loved the simplicities of life, sitting in his yard and surrounded by family.

In the mid-afternoon hours of Monday, April 19, 2021, God saw that his time on earth would be no more. He stretched out His hands and received him into His Kingdom. He has found that sweet rest at last. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Jessie Johnson, Elmer Munnerlyn, Jr., Eddie Lee Munnerlyn, Charles Munnerlyn, and Ronnie Munnerlyn.

He leaves many who will cherish his memory, including one sister: Bettye Smith of Montgomery, AL; two brothers: John Henry (Johnnie Mae) Munnerlyn of Tensaw, AL, and Sam (Marielle) Munnerlyn of Montgomery, AL; sisters-in-law: Andrette Munnerlyn and Mattie Munnerlyn; one goddaughter: Jamison Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and many friends.
