Ida Bell Lett Swift was born on July 6, 1948, to Robert Lee Lett and Hattie Riley Lett. She was one of six children born to this union. She accepted Christ as her Savior and served the Lord throughout her lifetime. Ida was a member of New Birth Pentecostal Church in Monroeville. She was a loving and kind spirited person who volunteered her time often. A retired Registered Nurse, she dedicated her life to caring for others.

A 1966 graduate of Union High School, Ida went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Wallace State College and her Master’s in Nursing from Samford University.

Ida entered into a union of love with Elijah Swift, Sr. together, they brought about the love of five children and the birth of one. Ida Bell Swift was a generous and unselfish volunteer, helping Hospice of Monroe County, the Health Care Ministry and the Nurses’ Guild. She was also a member of the Black Nurses Associations and an avid baker. In the evening hours of Friday, November 8, 2019, God saw that her time here should come to an end. There was no time for “good-bye”. She gently took His hand and left behind the woes of this earth.  She was preceded in death by a son, Michael.

She is survived by her daughters: Marsha’ Evette (Zachary) Seldon of Warner Robins, GA, Marilyn (Bobby) Scott of Montgomery, AL, Dorothy Ann Biggs and Joy Migwi of Birmingham, AL; one son: Elijah (Jacinda) Swift, Jr., of Athens, GA; two brothers: Richard (Felecia) Lett of Monroeville, AL, and Robert Lett, Sr., of New Orleans, LA; three sisters: Louise (General) Rodgers, Johnnie (Howard) Hale and Belinda Shutz all of Monroeville, AL; her grandchildren: Charitee, Paige, Aaron, Victoria, Valencia, Elijah III, Hope, and Faith; a host of nieces, nephews, other loved relatives and many friends.
