Gavin Nickolette Banks, was the twin son born on December 17, 2001, to Tromaine Banks and Katrina Matthews of Frisco City, AL. From early on in life, he was a joy to those who knew and loved him. Gavin was educated in the public schools of Monroe County and attended J. U. Blacksher High School. He was an outstanding athlete who began playing sports at an early age, including competing in the Monroe County Youth Football League as a Frisco City Whippet. Gavin worked hard at his talent in both Football and Basketball. As a standout on the Bulldog Men’s Basketball team of JUB, he and his teammates garnered the 2A Area Championship title in 2019.  

He was close to his family and had many friends. People found him a joy to be around. In the afternoon hours of Wednesday, July 15, 2020, 12:30pm, Gavin was taken from those he loved. He made the ultimate sacrifice to save another. Tragically, his time here on earth ended. He answered his Father’s call and traded his earthly body for a new set of Heavenly wings. He rests now with the Savior.  He was proceeded in death by his grandmother: Essie Preyear; his grandfather: William Curtis Cunningham; and great-grandfathers: Willie Anthony Cunningham and Walter Rankins.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents: Katrina Matthews of Frisco City, AL; Tromaine Banks of Frisco City, AL; his stepfather: Shucarlos Tellis of Montgomery, AL; eight siblings: Courtney (Bryson) Hollinger of Montgomery, AL, Corian Matthews, Essence Matthews, Gabriella “Gabby” Banks , (his twin sister) all of Frisco City, AL, Montrell Nettles of Monroeville, AL, Tromaine Banks, Jr., ReKarian Banks and Serenty Banks all of Luverne, AL; grandparents: Sherrie Matthews of Monroeville, AL, Sharon (Reginald) Taliferro of Monroeville, AL, Sylvester (Gwen) Lee also of Monroeville, AL, great grand-mothers: Maggie Rankins of Tunnel Springs, AL and Essie Bell Lee of Frisco City, AL, and Minnie Banks of Monroeville, AL; aunts, uncles, two nieces: Madison Daniels and Cheyanne Saulmarshall; many other loved relatives, teammates, cousins and friends.
