Dorothy Ruth Watts, was born on March 29, 1940 in Monroe County, AL, to Harry Watts and Dorothy Kate Richardson Watts. She was one of 18 children born to this loving union. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Frisco City, AL. She worshiped the Lord throughout her lifetime and regardless of what state she called home, she always found the house of God to worship in.
She attended and graduated from Union High School in 1960. After graduation, Dorothy made Queens, NY her home. An active member of her community, she engaged in various activities and was also a member of the Eastern Star Marie Floyd Chapter #360, Queens, NY.
“Dot,” as she was affectionately called, was a loving and kind spirited person. She enjoyed the love of family and friends. The simplicities of smiles and laughter were enough for her. She never missed an opportunity to be kind to someone else. She shared her love for the Lord by living in the likeness of Christ.
She worked as a Sales Representative for Zales Fine Jewelry for many years and also worked at TWA for several years before retiring and moving back home to Alabama. Almost immediately upon returning to Alabama, she starting attending Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, and did so until her health made it difficult.
In the early evening hours of Wednesday, March 10, 2021, the Lord saw that his servant should take her rest. He gently whispered her name, took her hand, and received her into Heaven. She has traded labor for reward and she has found that sweet peace at the end of day. She is preceded in death by parents; eight brothers: Roosevelt Watts, Daniel Watts, Harry Watts, James Allen, Andy Watts, Jerry Watts, Ronald Watts, Frank Watts; three sisters: Lola Hollings, Ella Quarles, Annie R.
