Derrick Tyrone Hollings was born on November 9, 1975, to the late Robert James Hollins and the late Lola Ree Watts-Hollings. Derrick, better known as “Big-D”, was well known in his town. He loved his family and friends, and he showed it with an open heart. Big-D also had a passion and love for his pets, especially his dogs. If you got to know Derrick, you would know that he was a very friendly and funny person. He always found a way to make people laugh and feel comfortable around him. Derrick was a master in working with his hands. He could always make something out of nothing, and it would amaze people how “crafty” he was. Derrick was educated in the public schools of Monroe County and graduated Monroe County High School with the Class of 1994. A very smart man, he had an ease and ability of excellence in Math. In his head, numbers just came to him fast. He was a outstanding athlete and a renowned football star at Monroe County High School; always having a good story from his athletic history. On Sunday, August 18, 2024, Derrick succumbed to his infirmaries, trading life on earth for eternal rest. He joins in death, his parents and grandparents: Willie Earl Tucker and Annie Ruth Hollings Tucker. Derrick leaves many memories that will be forever cherished by his wife, Leslee Rae Smith-Hollings of Castleberry, AL; three sons: Laderrick Brooks of Birmingham, AL, Dominic Hollings and Raiden Hollings both of Monroeville, AL; one brother: Eric Hollings of Monroeville, AL; a niece: Ariel Hollings and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
