Burl Richardson, Jr. Obituary

Burl Lee Richardson

"Lut"

Burl Lee Richardson, Jr. was born on November 17, 1946. He was the eldest son born to Burl Lee Richardson, Sr., and Mary Lee Williams Richardson in Monroe County, AL. He enjoyed the simplicities of life and found great joy in the happiness of family, laughter in friends and keeping things in order.

Affectionately called “Lut” by those who knew him best, he was a hard working provider for his family. He met and married Ireter Pearl and their union brought about the love of eleven children. A devoted husband and caring father, he wasn’t afraid of a hard days work. “Lut” worked in Sanitation for the City of Monroeville, on the Commercial Fishing Boats in Hammond, LA, and more recently, in Pulp Wooding for Davis Pulp Wooding in Franklin, AL. He loved his family and providing for them was what he believed in.

He was known for his “proper speaking” and he had many quotes that defined who he was, “hold it in the road” “I’m going to Africa” and “If you don’t get anything else, get an understanding-without an understanding, you don’t have nothing.” You could always expect to hear at least one of his famous quotes whenever you had a conversation with him. On the weekends, he liked to cook his greens, taters and wild hog.

In the morning hours of Sunday, December 23, 2018, he traded his earthly home for a mansion in the sky. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; one son: Derrick Deshon Richardson; and seven siblings: Henry Richardson, Bobby  Richardson, James Richardson, Woodrow Richardson, Bubba Tunstall, Lorene Richardson, Bernice Jones, Alice Thomas, and Dorothy Richardson. Burl Richardson leaves six daughters: Tracey Richardson, Tarranda (Mike Johnson) Richardson both of Monroeville, AL; Cassandra (Tariano) Richardson of Mobile, AL, Kenya Perez of Decatur, AL, Phyllis Nettles of Cleveland, OH, and Carlotta (Randal) Nicholson and Shannon (Emma) Richardson  both of Peterman, AL; four sons: Eddie Irene Dale) Knight of Pensacola, FL, Terry (Katrina) Knight of Calera, AL, and Brandon Richardson of Monroeville, AL; three sisters: Katherine (Cleveland) Richardson, Mary (Van) Riley and Bessie Salter all of Monroeville, AL; nineteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two nephews who were raised like children: “Uncle Marvin” and “Uncle Gene;” a host of other loved nieces and nephews, and many friends .
