Walter James Hodges
On April 24, 1929, in Greenwood, MS, Walter James Hodges was born to the late Jett and Elizabeth Johnson. He was preceded in death by three brothers: J.C. Johnson, Brady Lee and Robert Lee; and one son, James Anthony Heard.
Walter accepted Christ at an early age and united with Little Rock Baptist Church, where he served in several capacities: Asst. Chairman Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Senior Choir. Walter was a faithful member until his health began to fail. He retired from Riviera Utilities after many years of dedicated employment.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Sis. Austrailia Hodges of Foley, AL; eleven children: William Demtson, Jelius Keaton both of Homestead, FL, Algusta (Carole Demtson of Jacksonville, FL, Johnny (Carolyn) Luckett of Memphis, TN, Walter Hodges, Jr., Doris (Cornelius) Scott of Las Vegas, NV, Samuel Johnson of Buffalo, NY and Gertie Keaton of Orlando, FL; three devoted children: Cora Heard, Melvin (Minnie) Hodges and Adam Hodges all of Foley, AL; brothers-in-law: Vernie Heard, Sr., Felix (Lila) Heard, Walter (Shirley) Heard, and James Heard all of Foley, AL; sisters-in-law: Rosa Nichols, Naomi (John) Knight, Sr., all of Foley, AL; a host of grandchildren, great–grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, one devoted nephew: Grady B. of Greenwood, MS; two devoted friends: Bro. Earl Bodiford and Bro. Robert Williams.
