Thordie Longmire Obituary

Thordie Longmire

Heaven has received an Angel.

Thordie Brown Longmire was born on January 13, 1926, in Wilcox County, AL. She was born to the loving union of Fortune Brown and Annis Bragg Brown.

At an early age, she accepted Christ. A true woman of God, she served him faithfully, throughout her lifetime. She was a active member of the Apple Grove Baptist Church in Vredenburgh, AL, where for many years she sang in the Choir and taught Sunday School.

She entered the sanctity of Holy matrimony in 1947 with Roy Longmire. Their union saw the raising of 11 children. Mrs. Longmire made Monroe County her lifelong residence, making friends and building a life with her family. They shared sixty-seven years of marriage before God saw fit to call him Home. Now they are together again, in Heaven. Mrs. Longmire was well known in Monroe County and loved deeply by many. She worked for many years as an Educator. Her love for young people was evident. She shaped the futures of the students of the Headstart Programs in Vredenburgh and Tunnel Springs. Former students often express their love for her, knowing that she made a difference in their lives.

Her sweet and loving spirit will be missed. Her lifetime was filled with the simplicities of life; love, family, good friends and an avid love for various sports. She was indeed a “die- hard” fan of sports. She was devoted to her family and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Whenever she was about in the community, people were happy to see her and often time shared conversations that included smiles and laughter.

On Monday, January 28th, God sent down his Angels. They tenderly delivered to her Savior in Heaven. She rests now in God’s hands. Thordie Longmire has traded her song on earth for a mansion in the sky. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son: Larry and eight siblings: Eliza, Beulah, Lillie Mae, Lucy Mac, Olivia, Alfred, Fortune, Barry,Jr., Booker,

She leaves to cherish her memory, ten devoted children: Freddie Mae Brown and Gloria Montgomery both of St. Louis, MO, Debbie (James) Mills of Mobile, AL and Vivian (Curtis) Vannor of Spring Hill, TN, Lonnie (Carmen) Brown, Eddie (Diane) Longmire, Lindsey (Sennie) Longmire, Lee Charles (Wilma) Longmire, and Lether (Mary) Longmire all of Detroit, MI, and Donald (Stephanie) Longmire of Franklin, TN; two brothers: Peter Brown of Detroit, MI and Walter "WC" McCants of Mobile, AL; four sisters: Ernestine Newsome, Mary Etta White, Julie Powell, and Maranda Brown all of St. Louis, MO, twenty grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
