Pekita Rowanda Stallworth Butler was born in Monroe County on October 4, 1980, to Wanda Stallworth and Henry George Stallworth. She is one of five siblings. Early in life, her loving spirit blessed those who knew and loved her. The only daughter born to her mother, she was the sparkle in the family.
Pekita accepted Christ as her personal Savior and served him dutifully throughout her life. She united with the New Purchase C.M.E Church where she worshipped for much of her life. She later moved her worship to the Cathedral of Faith Christian Center under the spiritual leadership of Apostle Reginald Stallworth.
She entered into marriage with Jeremy “Chris” Yelder. Their union gave life to three loved boys, Jeremy, Jarius and DaShaun. A loving mother, she devoted her life to her sons and took pride in raising them. They were the driving force of herlife. Pekita believed in giving of herself. She was kind and loving. “Kita” as she was affectionately called, was a member of the 1999 graduating class of J.F. Shields. She attended Alabama Southern Community College where she studied Business and later went on to study Cosmetology at Reid State Technical College. No stranger to hard work, Pekita worked as a Picker and Stock Handler at Vanity Fair Mills for several years and as the Administrative Manager for Banks Memorial Funeral Home. Most recently, a Tax Preparer for Jackson Hewitt in Monroeville.
In the evening hours of Saturday, January 20, 2018, she succumbed to her illness and traded her place on earth for a mansion in the sky. Pekita has found that sweet rest in the arms of her Savior.
